2025 Winter HAGY Swim Team Level Descriptions<\/h2>\nLevel 1<\/strong><\/h4>\nAges: 6yr – 12yr<\/p>\n
The swimmers are new to competitive swimming.\u00a0 Evaluation criteria include swimming one length (25 yards) of Freestyle with rotary breathing & 25 yards Backstroke without stopping. \u00a0The practices focus on developing legal swimming technique for all 4 strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly), competitive swimming flip & open turns and learning how to dive from the starting blocks.<\/p>\n
Level 2<\/strong><\/h4>\nAges: 6yr – 12yr<\/p>\n
Evaluation criteria include swimming 100 IM, 50 yards of Freestyle with a flip-turn, 50 yards Backstroke with legal turn, and dive from the starting blocks. The practices will focus on proper technique in all 4 strokes and begin introducing swimmers to some speed work.<\/p>\n
Level 3<\/strong><\/h4>\nAges: 13yr – 18yr<\/p>\n
These swimmers are new to competitive swimming.\u00a0 Evaluation criteria include swimming one length (25 yards) of Freestyle with rotary breathing & 25 yards Backstroke without stopping.\u00a0 The practices focus on developing legal swimming technique for all 4 strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly), competitive swimming flip & open turns and learning how to dive from the starting blocks.<\/p>\n

Level 4 has 2 different evaluation criteria for different age groups.<\/p>\n
\n- 10-12yr swimmers are required to swim 200 IM under 3:30 and 4 x 100 Freestyle in 1:45.<\/li>\n
- 13-18yr swimmers are required to swim 200 IM legally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
This group focuses on developing more speed & endurance while maintaining proper technique for each stroke, fast-reaction relay starts, and deeply engrain proper kick & under-water technique.<\/p>\n
Level 5 <\/strong><\/h4>\nAges 11yr – 18yr<\/p>\n
The swimmers are required to swim 200 IM under 3:15 and 4 x 100 Freestyle under 1:30. These swimmers must be adept at the proper technique of all four strokes. All strokes, turns, and starts will be refined using a variety of training methods and there will be a high focus on building endurance.<\/p>\n
Level 6<\/strong><\/h4>\nAges 13yr – 18yr<\/p>\n
The swimmers are required to swim 400 IM under 6:00 and 6 x 100 Freestyle under 1:20. These swimmers must be adept at the proper technique of all four strokes. \u00a0Training will have a high focus on endurance and will progress at a very high pace throughout the season.<\/p>\n
